Geographic Information Annotation and Media (GIAMedia)

By Instructor, 18 June, 2020

This site is a bundling of Drupal core, modules (with software fixes for some of those) and includes a custom mapping theme for use as a geographic data collection platform to be used in community-engaged teaching, collaborative data collection and for creating geographic narratives, among other possible uses.

The platform is based on Drupal's extensive content management capabilities (structured, extensible multimedia document types, flexible indexing and search capabilities, and other nice features like revision management and upload file auditing) and its developing features for managing geographic locations and creating data feeds for mapping (based on the Geofield module and views).

This section provides a project overview, a brief description of the simple demonstration data used to create this site and expected work flows if you want to administer a site like this using Drupal 8+.

  • collaborative geographic data collection and creation with relatively simple visualizations: maps, lists, flexible searching.
  • allow groups to manage collected data according to their priorities.
  • a focus on search facilities that can manage all elements of the collected data as equally important.
  • use open mapping technologies and data where possible.
